McNally Residence
Tending what was left, adding what was missing
Our clients had recently moved into a home in Altadena and inherited a garden with strong intentions. It was thoughtfully planted with California natives, but left partially untended, with open areas waiting to be filled.
We were brought in to build on what was already there. Using the original palette as a foundation, we designed a complementary mix of companion plants and regionally appropriate additions, along with detailed maintenance guidance to support long-term plant health.
The result was a garden that felt whole, rooted in place and ready to grow into itself.
Tragically, this property was later lost in the Eaton fire.
We are currently working with the clients and design builder on the rebuilding of the property and the development of a new landscape proposal. While much of the original garden informs the new work, the rebuilt architecture creates opportunities for new spaces and programs, including outdoor dining and lounging areas, a private garden off the main bedroom, a play area with a small playhouse, and an outdoor patio connected to the kitchen and living spaces.
