Porter Residence

A little wild on purpose

A backyard for the back house, planted mostly with natives—evergreens, perennials, annuals, all doing their own thing. The structure comes from the planting itself, not the layout. Nothing overly tidy. The goal was to build a garden that changes with time and rewards attention.

A stainless steel raised bed runs along one edge, filled with herbs and vegetables. Terracotta planters soften the corners, holding flowers and whatever else is in season. The rest is in the ground, planted densely to encourage pollinators and blur the lines between cultivated and spontaneous.

There’s something happening year-round—blooms, seed heads, berries, birds. It’s a garden that doesn’t perform so much as it participates. A space for tending, for harvesting, for letting things go to seed. A little wild, on purpose.

Team:

Little Sister Workshop + our incredible clients who got their hands dirty and weren’t afraid of running with the weeds.

Special mention for Daisy, our lovely 4-legged helper and model.
